Mission: make business economics easier to inspect

Small-business operators make consequential pricing, cost, margin and growth decisions with incomplete information.

Many available calculators return one number without exposing the assumptions, commercial trade-offs or limits behind it.

Margin101 was built to make that chain visible.

Its mission is to turn practical business questions into private, explainable workflows with editable assumptions, scenario comparisons and useful next steps.

What Margin101 covers

Margin101 maintains separate public market foundations so terminology, currency, evidence and available tools can be reviewed in their stated scope.

Decision-support principles

Every workflow should show inputs, formulas, assumptions, exclusions, sources and meaningful sensitivity instead of hiding them behind a score.

Market-specific release gates

Available tools are explicitly published in the relevant tools directory. Each tool and methodology states its assumptions and market scope; a market foundation is not a claim of complete coverage for every business rule or decision.

The founder's story

From software engineering and information systems to transparent business tools

Hi, I'm Duc Nguyen X., the founder of Margin101.

I've spent more than 12 years as a software engineer building complex technology systems. My academic background is in Management Information Systems, which trained me to connect business rules, data and system design.

Margin101 began with a simple frustration: everyday commercial questions are often answered by opaque calculators or spreadsheets that are difficult to review.

Questions like:

  • What price protects the gross margin this sale needs?
  • Does this quote recover labour, overhead and non-billable capacity?
  • What does an ecommerce order keep after indirect tax, fees, fulfilment, advertising and returns?

Margin101 is my attempt to build the tools I wanted operators to have: fast, transparent and grounded in explicit assumptions.

I am not an accountant, tax agent, lawyer or financial adviser. Margin101 is educational decision support and does not replace professional judgement.

Why readers can trust Margin101

Trust should come from visible process and narrow claims, not from pretending an independent project is a large company.

Founder-led and independently maintained

Business logic is separated from UI, tested where risk is meaningful and designed so formulas can be reviewed.

Grounded in systems thinking

A Management Information Systems background helps connect business rules, data models and the real decisions behind pricing and profitability.

Clear editorial boundaries

Current market-specific facts require primary-source evidence, methodology is public and every page stays educational rather than advisory.

How Margin101 tools are built

The tools and explainers follow a practical release process:

  • Formula logic lives in product-owned code and is covered by focused tests.
  • Assumptions, units and exclusions are shown on the tool or methodology page.
  • Load-bearing current facts are checked against primary authorities for the applicable market and archived as evidence.
  • Static HTML, accessibility, internal links and privacy boundaries are validated before publication.

Accessibility and feedback

Margin101 aims to keep core content and tool explanations available in server-rendered HTML, support keyboard navigation and visible focus, maintain readable contrast, and respect reduced-motion preferences. Accessibility is an ongoing process and some limitations may remain across browsers, devices or complex interactive tools.

If something is difficult to read, navigate or operate, describe the page, device and problem by email: contact@margin101.com.

Operating principles

Absolute transparency

Clear formulas, reviewable logic and no black-box business score.

Connected decisions

Pricing, quoting and profitability tools link to the methodology, guidance and next useful decision.

Private and independent

Commercial inputs stay in the browser. Margin101 is independently built and does not sell personalised advice.
